Sample exercise: Sorting images into two categories by name
This sort requires images to be sorted into particular boxes (in this case, by species name). For a contrasting sort for which it does not matter which boxes images are sorted into, see here.
This type of exercise has several applications. It is perhaps most usefully applied as reinforcement or practice outside of class (e.g., homework), but can also be used for in-class quizzes or exams. In either case, a simple way to keep track of student scores is to have students take a screenshot of the "Your Score" results dialog on completion and email to the instructor.
Sample text for exercise below: The objective of this exercise is to help reinforce what you learned in lab on how to vegetatively distinguish H. arifolia from all other species of Hexastylis in North Carolina. Remember to disregard color as you sort. Instead, focus on the pattern of variagation and to a lesser degree leaf shape.
