Ridged bark of Quercus alba. Bark appears ridged from the base of the trunk rising up, and then changes to flaky bark.

Bark of Quercus alba that is  flaky.  Flaky bark occurs on the upper part of the trunk (lower bark has ridges).

Young acorn and end bud arrangement.

This photo shows the

form of Quercus alba and the leaf shape. The mid to upper part of the tree has flakier bark. The bark may appear similar to Q.michauxii, however the leaf shapes and habitats requirements are different.
